Set up your company values
Values are the categories every award is tagged to in KaBoon. Setting them up takes a few minutes and turns recognition from a generic thank-you into a visible picture of the culture you're building.
Start from sensible defaults
KaBoon seeds four starter values so you're never staring at a blank page. Keep them, edit them, or replace them entirely, they're just a starting point.
Excellence
10 ptsOutstanding work that raises the bar for everyone.
Collaboration
10 ptsHelping others succeed and unblocking the team.
Innovation
10 ptsNew ideas, experiments, and creative problem solving.
Ownership
10 ptsStepping up end-to-end and following through.
Make them yours
Rename and describe
Use your company's real values, and describe the behavior each one rewards so recognition stays specific and consistent.
Weight them with points
Give every value its own default point value. Weight the behaviors you most want to encourage, not every value has to be worth the same.
Custom or AI-generated icons
Upload your own icon for each value, or generate one with AI right in the catalog so every value looks the part on the board and in Slack.
Add, remove, reorder
Run four values or eight. Add new ones as your culture evolves and retire the ones that no longer fit, you're never locked into a template.
How points connect to values
Values and points are the same system seen from two angles, every value carries points, and every point traces back to a value.
Pick a value when you recognize someone
Running /award in Slack, the giver chooses which value the moment represents. This was Collaboration, that was Ownership. Recognition becomes specific instead of a generic thanks.
The value carries its points
Each value has a default point weight you set, so the award grants those points automatically. Higher-weighted values reward the behaviors you want to see more of.
Points roll up to people and factions
Those points count for the recipient and roll up to their faction on the leaderboard, value-driven recognition feeds the same competition everything else does.
Every award is tagged for insight
Because the award is tagged to a value, KaBoon can group recognition by value and show you which parts of your culture are thriving.
See your culture in action
The values heat map
Because KaBoon rolls up every value-tagged award, your points stack by value into an at-a-glance heat map of how your culture is actually showing up across the company. See which values are thriving and which need a spark, then celebrate accordingly. For how points become spendable rewards, see How points, boons & rewards work.
Why values matter
Values stop being a poster on the wall
Most companies have values with no way to see them in action. Tying recognition to values brings them into Slack, where work actually happens.
Recognition gets more specific
"Great job" is nice; "great Ownership on that launch" is memorable. Naming the value makes praise clearer and easier to repeat.
You can see culture, not guess at it
Every value-tagged award rolls up into an at-a-glance heat map of how your culture is actually showing up, which values are celebrated, and which need a spark.
Frequently asked questions
How many company values can I have?+
As many as fit your culture. KaBoon seeds four to start (Excellence, Collaboration, Innovation, and Ownership), and most teams run somewhere between four and eight. You can rename, remove, or add values freely.
Can each value be worth a different number of points?+
Yes. Every value has its own default point value that you set. Awards tagged to that value grant those points, so you can weight the behaviors you most want to encourage.
Can I use our own icons for values?+
Yes. Give each value a custom icon by uploading your own image, or generate one with AI right in the values catalog so every value looks the part.
Do values reset when a season ends?+
No. Values live at the workspace level, so they carry across every season. When a season ends the point standings reset, but your values and their history stay put.
How do values connect to recognition?+
Every award is tagged to a value when it's given with /award. That makes recognition specific ('this was Collaboration'), grants the value's points, and rolls each award up so you can see which values are thriving.
