How to Set Up Your KaBoon Workspace
Get KaBoon running in your Slack workspace in 5–10 minutes. This guide walks you through each setup step, what it means, and why it matters.
Four setup steps
KaBoon's setup is straightforward. Pick a theme, connect Slack, invite your team, and define your values. You'll be ready to give your first /award in about 10 minutes.
Choose Your Theme
Pick a theme that resonates with your team: Pirate Crews, Wizarding Houses, Kingdoms, or Default. Your theme sets the vibe for recognition and includes a unique currency name.
Themes are purely cosmetic—they don't change how recognition works. Pick something your team will actually enjoy.
Select Your Slack Channel
Choose the Slack channel where KaBoon will post recognition, leaderboards, and updates. Most teams use a dedicated #recognition or #wins channel.
KaBoon will post a welcome message explaining how to use /award. We recommend leaving this on.
Invite Your Team
Add people to your workspace now, or let them auto-join when they're first recognized in Slack. You can invite more people anytime.
Start with your core team and let others join as they get recognized.
Define Your Company Values
These are the categories people use when recognizing each other. Instead of generic praise, recognition is tied to what actually matters to your culture.
KaBoon comes with defaults (Excellence, Collaboration, Innovation, Ownership), but you should make them yours. Use language your team actually speaks.
Set Up Your First Season (Required)
A season is required to start giving recognition. It's a time-boxed round with competing teams and leaderboards. This is what makes recognition feel like a team sport.
Follow our season setup guide to create your first season in about 10 minutes.
After setup
Give your first /award
Go to your recognition channel and try /award. Recognize a teammate for something specific. See how good it feels.
Share with your team
Let people know the /award command is live. Have leadership recognize a few people to set an example.
Watch recognition flow
Once people start using /award, you'll see recognition happen in real-time. Notice what resonates and what your team actually values.
Refine as you go
Your values might shift. Your team structure might change. You can tweak everything—KaBoon is built for evolution.
